The Sooner Club

Your Sooner Club Membership

Through annual contributions, our donors set the stage for Oklahoma Athletics to compete at the highest level and for our  student-athletes to enjoy success in competition, the classroom and life. A Sooner Club membership level is comprised of all contributions made to support OU Athletics within a specific giving year. These gifts can include required seating gifts and philanthropic gifts to areas of focus.

Through each gift made to OU Athletics, members earn points which are used to recognize their history of support to OU Athletics. Due to the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act of 2017, the Sooner Club shifted to two priority point systems to preserve the deductibility of charitable contributions and provide benefits for any benefit outside of home seating.

Seat Related Giving

Season tickets for football, men's and women's basketball and softball have a required per seat donation that is required for the purchase of the seat in addition to the season ticket costs. This amount is required to renew the seat annually and counts toward your overall membership level.

Seat related giving is not tax deductible. Members do receive Sooner points for their seat related gifts which are used for priority for seating upgrade processes for football, basketball and softball.

Championship Giving

Gifts that are to areas of focus outside of required seating donations are considered Championship gifts. Championship points are earned for these gifts which can be made on an annual one-time basis, or in a multi-year pledge. All payments received in the particular giving year also make up the overall membership level for your account.  In most cases, these gifts are also tax deductible.

Members who continue to go above and beyond their seating donations will experience a new way for their gifts to be recognized for special events and exclusive benefits outside of home tickets.

Formed in 2018, the Inspiring Champions Fund provides the resources necessary for student-athletes to excel academically and in competition. Since it’s creation, over 4,500 Sooner Club members have contributed to the fund annually with a need to enhance this base to privately fund all student-athlete initiatives over the next 5 years. For decades, OU Athletics has been a pioneer in the resources committed to student-athletes as well as how we develop Sooners for Life. These new initiatives incorporate our three areas of focus for our future as a department and student-athlete care – to recruit the best and brightest student-athletes, to excel as a Sooner while you’re at OU, and for our letterwinners to inspire the next generation.

We set the standard at OU and are constantly pursuing excellence. Facility projects are an integral piece of that pursuit. With no general university funds, student fees or state tax dollars, philanthropic gifts are how our facility projects are funded. Gifts to facility projects count toward your annual membership level to help you achieve benefits like OU vs. Texas seating and parking passes for home games. A gift to a facility project can be pledged out so that it is payable over a 3 to 5-year period. The Championship Points for the full amount of the pledge are deposited in the account at the time of the pledge. Making a facility project pledge can ensure that you are at a certain membership level for the foreseeable future.

Scholarship support for our student-athletes provides opportunities in our constant pursuit of excellence in the classroom. Since 2000, the total scholarship costs to the University of Oklahoma Athletics department has increased by over $16 million to a total scholarship bill of nearly $20 million. Our current scholarship endowment holds an annual expendable amount at just under $1.5 million to be used toward scholarships across a variety of sports creating an annual need of $18.5 million. Scholarship gifts offset this annual expense and provide meaningful investment into the long-term success of OU Athletics
